Our Programs

Opportunity Academy programs are designed to develop the whole student.
We use sport as an entry point to build confidence, emotional intelligence, leadership, and long-term opportunity for youth, especially girls and young women.

Each program area works together to support growth on the field, in school, and in life.

Athletic Training & Physical Development

What it is:
Intentional athletic training that builds strength, speed, agility, mobility, and body awareness.

  • Why it matters:
Sport is more than competition. Physical training builds confidence, discipline, resilience, and self-trust. When athletes feel strong in their bodies, they show up stronger everywhere else.

    Long-term impact:

    • Improved physical health and injury awareness

    • Increased confidence and self-belief

    • Foundation for continued athletic participation and opportunity

Leadership Development & Voice

What it is:
Opportunities for athletes to build confidence, self-advocacy, and leadership skills.

Service Learning & Community Engagement

What it is:
Service projects that encourage athletes to give back and engage with their communities.

  • Why it matters:
Historically, girls and marginalized youth have been told to be quiet or stay small. We create space for athletes to use their voice, lead with confidence, and take up the space they deserve.

    Long-term impact:

    • Strong communication and leadership skills

    • Confidence in academic, athletic, and professional settings

    • Preparation for future leadership roles

  • Why it matters:
Service builds empathy, responsibility, and perspective. It teaches athletes that leadership includes contributing beyond themselves.

    Long-term impact:

    • Stronger sense of purpose and community connection

    • Development of empathy and social responsibility

    • Leadership rooted in service

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

What it is:
Programming focused on emotional awareness, communication, confidence, and resilience.

  • Why it matters:
Athletes face pressure early. Learning how to understand emotions, manage stress, and communicate needs helps young people navigate challenges on and off the field.

    Long-term impact:

    • Stronger self-esteem and emotional regulation

    • Healthier relationships with teammates, coaches, and peers

    • Skills that support academic success and mental well-being

Financial Literacy & Life Skills

What it is:
Education that introduces athletes to budgeting, saving, money management, and financial decision-making.

  • Why it matters:
Financial literacy is rarely taught early, yet it shapes long-term stability and opportunity. Understanding money builds independence, confidence, and future readiness.

    Long-term impact:

    • Stronger decision-making skills

    • Increased financial confidence and awareness

    • Preparation for adulthood and economic mobility

Internships, Mentorship & Career Exposure

What it is:
Opportunities that expose athletes to professional environments, mentorship, and real-world experiences.

  • Why it matters:
Many young people have limited exposure to careers beyond what they see daily. Early access expands imagination, confidence, and future pathways.

    Long-term impact:

    • Greater career awareness and readiness

    • Improved confidence navigating professional spaces

    • Expanded networks and mentorship support

What Participation Looks Like

Opportunity Academy is designed as a structured, cohort-based experience that blends athletic training with leadership and life development.

Participants engage in:

  • Weekly athletic training sessions focused on strength, conditioning, and skill development

  • Biweekly leadership and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) sessions focused on confidence, communication, and personal growth

  • Quarterly service projects that connect athletes to their communities

  • Career exposure opportunities including site visits, guest speakers, and mentorship

  • Seasonal workshops in financial literacy and life skills

Programming primarily takes place after school and on weekends to support student schedules.

Each element is intentionally designed to work together, creating a consistent rhythm of development on and off the field.
